New York Chronicles Part I

The Mannequin Party by Gino R Campodonico - NYC 2015 2

This summer’s trip to New York City was a whirlwind. My boyfriend, Joseph, and I are known to pack in as much fun as we can when we vacation, but this is by far the most we’ve done in one week away from home. We did so much that this post needs to be divided into two parts. Let’s get started!

One of my favorite artists is Andy Warhol. I like to visit MoMA while in the city to check out the permanent collection of his work. I got inspired by his pop art and wore this oversized dollar sign shirt to the museum. I also couldn’t wait to wear my new yellow high tops, plus they brought out the bright colors of the shirt nicely. Cool POP fashion moment.

Another highlight during our visit to MoMA was the Yoko Ono: One Woman Show, 1960–1971 exhibition.

“Yoko Ono: One Woman Show, 1960–1971 surveys the decisive decade that led up to Ono’s unauthorized exhibition at MoMA, bringing together approximately 125 of her early objects, works on paper, installations, performances, audio recordings, and films, alongside rarely seen archival materials.”

We don’t care to try other noodle shops in NYC because we know David Chang’s momkofuku noodle bar is literally the best thing ever. It was a little difficult for me to restrain myself from not diving into the delicious bowl of heavenly ramen. We also checked out his new fried chicken sandwich place, fuku, and OMFG, it was incredible! It was so freaking fantastic that we didn’t even waste a second trying to take a photo. It’s 100% a must try.

Susanne Bartsch’s On Top at Le Bain at The Standard Hotel

You know I love me a good party and there’s no doubt (at least to me) that Ms. Susanne Bartsch aka The Queen of the Night throws the best soirées in town. She’s been doing this for decades and just gets the art of an extravagant party. Bartsch knows the magic recipe for a good debaucherous night out and that entails a hot spot, good music, art, fashion and most importantly, an amazing gaggle of over-the-top club kids. Her summers at Le Bain are that and so much more!

Oh! Don’t miss her upcoming exhibit, Fashion Underground: The World of Susanne Bartsch, at The Museum of FIT. It will be a chance to see 80 looks from her personal collection. Featured designers include The Blonds, John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier, Alexander McQueen, Thierry Mugler, Vivienne Westwood and more. Exhibit opens on September 18.

We’re Broadway babies and that’s just who we are! When we saw the cast of Something Rotten perform at the Tonys earlier this year we collapsed, so we knew we had to see it. Ugh, and let me tell you the musical was HYS-TER-I-CAL. I mean, what else is there to expect when you put together the geniuses that have worked on past hit shows such as Aladdin and The Book of Mormon. Something Rotten tells the story of Nick and Nigel Bottom, two brothers who are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rockstar known as “The Bard” aka Shakespeare. Check it out!

Taxi! We’re off to Fire Island.

This trip we finally made it to the gay mecca that is Fire Island and its sister island Cherry Grove. This place truly is gay paradise – like everyone is a homo and it’s magical. We fell in love with the beaches, sunsets, parties and the people. Everyone was SO nice which took us awhile to get used to. Um, and seeing drag queens walk around like regular citizens at all times of the day was better than glitter. We’re definitely going back next summer.
