A NEON OASIS

In early September, The MANnequin Party hit up the West Coast to squeeze out the last bit of summer fun before season began full force. We started off in Vegas for a couple of days – mainly to see the one and only Britney Spears live in her Piece of Me concert – but made time for other things we had never done before. Here are a few highlights of the places we loved on and off The Strip.

Our favorite new discovery was a diamond in the rough named the Neon Museum. About a 20-30 minute cab ride off The Strip, the Neon Museum houses multiple historic neon gems from past Vegas heydays. According to the website: “Founded in 1996, the Neon Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to collecting, preserving, studying and exhibiting iconic Las Vegas signs for educational, historic and cultural enrichment.”

The minute we entered this glittering graveyard our mouths dropped to the sand. We were in awe (& completely obsessed) with its raw beauty and inspired to shoot a few outfit pics. Let’s play dress up!

“The two-acre Museum campus includes the adjacent Neon Boneyard Park, the Boneyard itself, which houses more than 150 historic signs, and the Neon Boneyard North Gallery which contains approximately 60 additional signs including signs from the Palms Casino Resort, New-New York, Lady Luck and O’Shea’s.

Each sign in the collection has a unique story about who created it, what inspired it, where and when it was made, and how it fits into the development of Las Vegas and the city’s rich history. Changes and trends in design and technology are also illustrated in the pieces that range from the 1930s to the present day.”

Being out and about in Sin City requires versatility. Between the weather and strict dress codes, one’s outfit has to be ready for it all. On this day, I chose to wear my maroon oversized faux leather Top Man tank top with white American Apparel jeans and comfy Superga navy blue canvas sneakers – perfect for lots of walking. The top and shoes’ textures helped me create a more refined casual look. While the accompanying blazer with white and maroon accents complemented the ensemble and made it easy to take the outfit to the next level. Lastly, the Italia Independent mirrored shades were a great accessory for sunny day in the desert.

Note: Next time you buy a blazer, take a look at the lining. More and more brands are incorporating fun lining patterns to their suits and jackets. If the occasion calls for it, roll up your sleeves and show off the lining – it’s another way to add cool element to your overall look!

We fell in love with the Neon Museum and definitely recommend you check it out, but here is a list of other places worth noting.

At the end of the day, ladies and gents, Las Vegas is whatever you want it to be. However, at this point in my life, I choose to have crazy fun, channel my inner Frank Sinatra and put my responsibilities aside whenever I visit. What else are you supposed to do in the world’s most infamous adult playground?!

Till next time, MANnequins!
